Maj Gen W A Dimoline
Colonel Commandant

The first issue of a Journal of the King’s African Rifles appeared in July 1956. The Editor was Lt Col H Moyse-Bartlett.

It opened with a Foreword by The Colonel Commandant, Maj Gen W A Dimoline:

Apart from keeping our own family of battalions in touch with each other, it will, I hope, show the rest something of the joy  and fascination of service in Africa.

Too often, now-a-days, [1950s] we hear that ‘the spirit of adventure is dying’, but I hope that what we produce here in these Journals will give a lie to this.

The success of the Journal will depend on how far all are willing to contribute to its pages. I therefore appeal to all, to see that what we have launched continues, and that the Journal becomes—

THE FAMILY HISTORY OF THE KING’S AFRICAN RIFLES.

Judging by the number of articles and reminiscences recorded in the pages of Rhino Link — with well over 500 contributions, it seems that members have more than matched the Colonel Commandant’s wishes.
